Leanna Marchand is a registered nurse and an attorney. She has worked in the medico-legal field for twenty years.
Beginning in 1990, Mrs. Marchand worked as a paralegal and office manager at McColl & McColloch, a nationally known white-collar criminal defense firm in Dallas, Texas, where she participated in the preparation and trial of more than 20 criminal cases in both state and federal court. While working full time at McColl & McColloch, Mrs. Marchand was also a full time nursing student at Texas Women's University, where she received her B.S.N. degree in 1993. After graduating from nursing school, and while still working full time at McColl & McColloch, Mrs. Marchand began pursuit of a law degree at Southern Methodist University School of Law. While still in law school she was recruited by Melvin D. Morgan, M.D., J.D., a founding partner of the nationally known firm of Morgan & Weisbrod. In 1996 Mrs. Marchand received her law degree, with honors, from Southern Methodist University.
Mrs. Marchand worked in the area of medical malpractice for Morgan & Weisbrod first as a law clerk, then as an associate attorney, then as a junior partner with the firm. In 2002 she co-founded SMITH & MARCHAND, L.L.P., which became Marchand & Rossi, L.L.P. She has experience in all aspects of medical malpractice litigation, including trials.
Mrs. Marchand authored a chapter entitled "Legal Terminology" in the textbook Nursing Practice and the Law, published by F.A. Davis. Mrs. Marchand also co-authored with her husband and law partner, David Marchand, "VBAC Suits and Risky Situations" and "Anesthesia Regs Required, Outpatient Procedures Scrutinized," both published in The Texas Lawyer. She has also lectured on modern electronic discovery issues at meetings of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of American (now known as the American Association of Justice).
Mrs. Marchand is a former Director of the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association, and has been a Sustaining Member and former Director of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. She was Treasurer of the Medical Negligence and Information Exchange Group of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, has been on the Membership Subcommittee of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and was a Director of the Law Student Division of the State Bar of Texas. Mrs. Marchand has also been a member of the American College of Legal Medicine, the Texas Nurses' Association, the American Nurses Association, and the Texas Association of Nurse Attorneys.
